Hampshire County is a food lover’s paradise with a variety of great places to eat. Whether you’re in the mood for a hearty breakfast or a delicious dinner, you’ll find something to satisfy your cravings here. In this article, I’ll share my favorite spots to grab a bite, along with my personal reviews and tips to help you enjoy your meals to the fullest.
1. Jake’s Restaurant
Jake’s Restaurant, right in the middle of Northampton, is the go-to spot for breakfast lovers (like myself). The breakfast options are a big hit, especially the hash. The portions are generous, so you’ll definitely leave with a full stomach.
The staff are super friendly and make you feel welcome from the moment you walk in. The cozy atmosphere makes it a great spot for a relaxed meal. Plus, if you’re in a hurry, they offer takeout too.
I remember my first visit to Jake’s on a chilly Sunday morning. The place was packed, and the smell of freshly cooked breakfast was amazing. I went for the corned beef hash because everyone recommended it, and wow, it was fantastic. The meat was tender, the potatoes were crispy, and the seasoning was perfect.
Even though there was a bit of a wait, the friendly vibe and hot coffee made it totally worth it.
2. Johnny’s Tavern

Johnny’s Tavern is all about organic produce, sustainable seafood, and hormone-free meats. So, you can feel good about what you’re eating. They also have a lot of gluten-free options, which is awesome for anyone with dietary restrictions.
The menu has everything from pasta and burgers to seafood and pizza, so there’s something for everyone. The vibe at Johnny’s is super welcoming, making it perfect for brunch, family gatherings, dates, solo meals, business meetings, or just hanging out with friends. They offer private dining, parking, accept credit cards, and have great table service.
I recently tried their signature burger, and wow, it was amazing. The patty was juicy, the toppings were fresh, and the bun was just right. The truffle fries on the side were a nice touch. The service was spot-on too—the staff was attentive but not overbearing. Johnny’s has become one of my go-to spots, especially for brunch with friends.
3. Pita Pockets
If you’re craving a taste of the Mediterranean in Hampshire County, you’ve got to check out Pita Pockets. This cozy, family-run spot is famous for its friendly vibe and delicious food. Their falafel is probably the best I’ve ever had. It’s perfectly crispy on the outside and soft and flavorful on the inside. Seriously, you can’t miss it.
Their menu is loaded with options like chicken, gyro meat, hummus wraps, and plenty of vegetarian dishes, so everyone can find something to love. The owner and staff are super welcoming, making you feel right at home.
Pita Pockets became a quick favorite of mine after just one lunch visit. The falafel wrap blew me away – it was fresh, crispy, and bursting with flavor. The homemade hummus was incredibly creamy and went perfectly with the warm pita bread.
Plus, having a friendly chat with the owner about the day’s specials made me feel like I’d been coming there for years, even though it was my first time.
4. Paul & Elizabeth’s
Paul & Elizabeth’s is a go-to spot for anyone craving vegetarian and vegan food in Northampton. Their menu is packed with a variety of veggie and vegan dishes, so you’re sure to find something that hits the spot. The chill vibe of the place makes it perfect for a relaxed lunch or dinner.
When I ate there, I had a vegan stir-fry that was loaded with fresh veggies and full of flavor. The service was a bit slow, but honestly, the delicious food made up for it. It’s a great place to unwind, have a leisurely meal, and catch up with friends or enjoy some solo time.
5. Frontera Grill
If you’re in the mood for some amazing Mexican food, you need to check out Frontera Grill in Chicopee. Their menu is packed with delicious dishes, but the tableside guacamole is a must-try. They whip it up fresh right in front of you, and it’s seriously the best. Plus, they have a big selection of margaritas to go with your meal.
Whether you’re vegetarian or need gluten-free options, they’ve got you covered. And if you prefer dining outside, their outdoor seating is perfect.
When I had dinner at Frontera Grill, it was awesome. Watching the guacamole being made at our table was a fun and tasty experience. The enchiladas were packed with flavor, and the margaritas hit the spot. The staff was super friendly, and the atmosphere was lively. It was a night to remember!
All in all…
Hampshire County has a lot to offer when it comes to great food. Each of these spots has its own unique charm and atmosphere, making dining out in Hampshire County a delightful experience.
